Favorite book of all time!

Haven't read too many books, but so far I must say the Forgotten Realms Dark Elf Trilogy and Icewind Dale Trilogy by R. A. Salvatore.

Aren't these books based on games? I've read one book based on game, guessing from polish title, the original one was "Baldur's Gate" by... I don't remember. It wasn't bad, like, let's say... Amateur fantasy, written by guys like me, or even worse, that You can find in polish magazine Fantastyka, but I think it was still bad. If the books You mention are as bad, then You probably are yet to be excited by how good books can be, that is, don't stop reading .

I can recommend the Hitchiker Guide to the Galaxy. I've saw two people recommend it recently (and one was here, Ioanna, I believe), then I started reading it, and it's great. Well, it all depends on preferences, but you can guess the preferences of a guy with 'ether' in his nicname.

One of best fantasy series are Malloreon by David Eddings, and The Witcher Saga by Andrzej Sapkowski

Oh that's easy. The City of Dreaming Books.

Not the greatest story I know, but it uses the medium of the novel just excelently. It's a novel about novels, and absolutely hilarious.
