Pleasant enough Irish/Celtic sounds and not nearly as shrill as many of the Bards' work.

It's not a flute, it's a penny whistle, and they're not "tempered" to modern tonality. Bach was responsible for how we hear pitches now. Yes, the penny whistle is shrill compared to a flute.
