About Radio Rivendell

Radio Rivendell is a non-commercial, non-profiting web radio station dedicated to playing the best fantasy music there is. 24 hours a day, all year around.

We've been online since 2001 when we started. Radio Rivendell was formed from a litte test I did with Shoutcast for my crappy Pentium 160MHz server. I friend of mine then suggested that I should play fantasy music for our roleplaying sessions. We've had a burned CD with a bunch of fantasy tunes we used to listen too, but it got too repepetive after a couple of sessions.

So I started the station and named it "Radio Rivendell". In the beginning it was hardly noticed in Shoutcast's directory, but as time passed by a bunch of listeners tuned in and the interest grew and grew. Suddenly all my six slots was completely full almost 24-7 so I increased to eight. It didn't last very long either. A domain was bought and a website developed, forums were added, and people started to visit the site. I spent quite some time to try to build up something useful for all the visitors.

The music that is being played is mainly from fantasy films such as Lord of the Rings, Conan, Willow and such, but it also features music from well known computer games such as Warcraft, Baldur's Gate, Dungeon Siege and many more. As time passed by Radio Rivendell has tried to promote small bands and independent artists who submit music and has allowed Radio Rivendell to play their music. This is something that will grow in the future.

The donations received are used to pay for hardware, software, domain costs and CDs. There is no profit in the station, everything goes back to the station and its listeners.
