Radio Rivendell heavily relies on the kindness of others, we don't get any serious amount of money from this little business. We mainly strive to supply you with the best independent fantasy music there is, 24-7, without interruption and without break for advertisement. All this would ruin the mood for sure!

Streaming however is not free, but that's where our kind little community (that's you) comes in! By donation excess bandwidth we're able to stream to 4076 individual listeners at the same time. Paying for the same service would ruin us in a week.

So, do you have a server lots of bandwidth on a stable connection? It's not really difficult, and you can use either Windows, Mac or Linux to help out. We're relying on Shoutcast's technology to do this and it more or less only requires some tinkering with some INI-files.

This is what you need to fulfil in order to be able to join our forces:

• A Linux, Mac or Windows computer. Check this website on OS:es that currently are supported by Shoutcast.
• Computer online 24-7, which you don't use for any super processor-hungry things (gaming, overloaded webserver etc.) We want the streams to be stable.
• A minimum of 1Mbit bandwidth on uplink used more or less only for the radio stream. Again we want stable and reliable bandwidth.
• Some knowledge on installing and configuring somewhat quirky applications.
• (Optional) A fixed IP address, it will probably work with a dynamic IP, but it's a bit more messy sometimes.
