You are asking about the third Hobbit? Unfortunately I didn't care much for it I'm afraid. It's good looking and has a few cool characters. Less fun and silly things, but it's mainly over two hours of CGI-battles with a few "rallying-calls" to summon the troops for battle. Did I say it was one big and long battle? It's just what it is mainly. I liked the end best, where we get to see a weeeeee bit of the Shire again. I'd like more of that!
I needed to see the last film, but it didn't leave any fond memories I'm afraid ...

Like 2 Towers? I watched that in cinema and was really amazed how long the battle of Helmsdeep was taking.

I know I'm a bit late for this discussion, but I watched the third Hobbit film some days ago. I didn't like it. I'm not the biggest fan of Tolkien books, but I read them nevertheless. I understand that Peter Jackson (PJ) made some changes in the story adapting it for the films (all of them) and it doesn't bother that much, because mostly all of this changes were quite reasonable.
But the third Hobbit movie had A LOT of changes in my opinion. There are lot of things that are poorly explained, lengthened to fit more time on-screen or some things missing.
SPOILER ALERT
There are dialogues that are a bit lame and they abused of the slow-motion. I refer by this Thorin's gold illness dialogues. In LOTR movies I only remember Sam's slow motion dialogue "share the load" that fit perfectly. But on this movie it was so over used that I can't remember a single one!
Some fights are really pathetic to watch. By this I mean, when you see some Esgaroth's cloth-shirted fishermen killing Gundabad's mailed orcs with a swing of a sword it looses realism. I know that it's fantasy, but in theory this fishermen would be butchered by a force like this. In The Return of the King, Gondor's soldiers had a difficult (and almost impossible) battle against orcs like this...
Why Mass Effect's Thresher Maws appear in this movie? Trolls carrying catapults? Did I miss something on the books?
Beorn appears less than a minute of film and he doesn't rescue Thorin on his dying moment like it happens in the book. I know a lot of readers are fond of this scene of the book and story, and removing this was unexplainable.
Finally, the first part of the movie (Smaug's death) should have been the last part of the second movie.
It was like this film lost the structure and the fluidity of the other Tolkien-PJ's movies.
What do you people think?

I have to agree with all of you...I think we got spoiled with LOTR; Uncle Pete did such an exemplary job on them that Hobbit was a bit of an anticlimactic letdown. As far as your critique of the third film, Darth, I think you are spot-on; perhaps Sir Ian wasn't as watchful over the particulars as he was in LOTR - he kept everyone "humble"... right down to which of Frodo's hands Sam should grasp upon their return to Rivendell at the end...

I can't agree more. I wonder if the film company forced PJ to make a new trilogy for the money, not for the correctness and greatness it could and should have been. One movie should have been enough, not three. The last one was unfortunately the least good. It was not really bad, but it didn't leave any lasting impression unfortunately.

And many teasers were not resolved. Who were the thugs in Bree that threatened Thorin and what happened to them? Did Thranduil ever get the necklace? Did Bard get the share of the treasure in exchange for the Arkenstone? Did Bilbo and Gandalf dig up the troll gold that was buried in the first movie? WHY didn't we see Thorin's burial?? And we should have seen Balin and Gandalf visit The Shire at the end. Lord Elrond is right in calling the third movie the least good.
My husband called it: These aren't adaptations of the book, they're fan films with their own plot (and plot holes).

I watched the LOTR trilogy after third Hobbit and I must say - if watching older movies AGAIN after fresh new movies still gives better impressions, then conclusions are obvious...
