I don't get it.... Is this an attempt to form a new roleplay thread, or a post about a game in the wrong category???

I am asking because I would be very fond of the idea of starting roleplaying...

I think, it is a post in the wrong category. I just want to know want people think about this game mechanic. I payed Pathfinder, but I am big Middle-Earth fan. So I would like to start pencil and paper RPG in The Middle-Earth.

I don't like old MERP mechanic and lore, so i am thinging about giving a chance to The One Ring RPG. But first, I would like to find out more about this game =)

Ioanna, you can just start a new game! Anyone else up for a little game?

I believe that Pathfinder is the better system, but TOR is also a great set of rules and if you play LOTRO, some of TOR is similar.

If anyone is interested in trying out their online RP skills in a thread where storyline doesn;t matter too much, come over to the Vikings RP. It's just a silly little RP to practice your skills and get feedback from experienced online RPers like myself.

The previous post is a year old, but I'd thought I'd throw in my two cents about the issue, just in case my views might prove useful to someone. I was extremely skeptical when I heard that a new Middle-earth RPG was coming up, and remained so until I got a chance to play it. Then I saw that for the first time, someone had actually captured the spirit of Tolkienian heroics in a game system! The system is built so that it encourages play in the vein of Tolkien's works: for example, even hindered by damage, your character doesn't lose the capacity to do things worthy of song! And, unlike in D&D-style hit point systems, injury will make itself felt in your actions. In effect, when you're battered and beaten, you will either fail miserably or succeed magnificently. This lack of mediocre achievements once bloodied makes for dramatic action! Direct comparison between TOR and Pathfinder/D&D 3x doesn't make much sense in that the two systems seek to accomplish different things. TOR aims for grand deeds, both combative and social, on a heroic scale (think Bilbo's journey to the Lonely Mountain and his deeds there), whereas D&D 3.x and Pathfinder are geared toward intense skirmish-level battles. It's like comparing a road movie and an action film - they cater to different tastes, and can't really replace one another.
