Rp Practice

*Hi guys, just thought since vikings was getting a little long in the tooth, I'd start up a non-specific practice thread. This thread is for everyone to practice their RP skills, and to get feedback from experience online RPers.
I've been playing online RPs like the ones in this forum for many years now, and I consider myself to be pretty experienced - and as a published poet and novelist, I also consider my writing to be of a fairly high standard!
I've been away for a while so it's good to see some new faces in the RP section, though a lot of you have mentioned that this is the first time you've done online RPing (as opposed to offline DM-led pen and paper). Please feel free to join in, don't worry about doing anything wrong, and just jump in. You can also post your characters up here for review and feedback if you're not sure how to create an online character sheet.
A note about writing marks - typically, asterisk marks (*) refer to OOC or Out Of Character remarks, like this introduction. When in character, your character cannot see any remarks made if they are in asterisks. Tilde marks (~) refer to a character thinking something, and anything in italics usually denotes either a quote from a previous entry, or something an NPC is saying to that character. Plain text is used for descriptions. I'll start off with a basic post below, utilising all of those marks so you can see how they work. I'm rping a scene from LOTR - one you may know well in order to show how to RP using a familiar context. My 'character' for this scene is Frodo in the first post, then Gandalf in the second, and I'm RPing the short scene in the Council of Elrond (Film version) where he offers to take the Ring to Mordor. I'm RPing two posts to show you how one post can lead to another.*
Post 1: (Frodo)
Frodo looked round at the council, fear gripping his heart. The sound of the Ring echoed in his head, and he cold not bear to see his friends being manipulated so. Suddenly coming to a decision, he jumped from his chair.
"I will take it!" He said, though his voice was lost in the uproar. "I will take it!" He said again. As the enormity of his words sunk in, the members of the council turned to him. ~You fool, Frodo..~ he thought to himself, but continued on regardless. "I will take the Ring to Mordor... though, I do not know the way."
Post 2 (Gandalf):
"I will take it!" He said, though his voice was lost in the uproar. "I will take it!" He said again. As the enormity of his words sunk in, the members of the council turned to him. ~You fool, Frodo..~ he thought to himself, but continued on regardless. "I will take the Ring to Mordor... though, I do not know the way."
Gandalf turned as Frodo spoke, and sighed. ~So young for such a task,~ he thought, but aloud he said; "I will help you bear this burden, Frodo Baggins, for as long as it is yours to bear."
*That was just a quick intro, you can find more info in my other posts in the OOC part of the board. Please feel free now to post - doesn;t have to be LOTR related, but it's just a way of practicing and having someone to play against and get feedback.*
