Hi everybody! I'm writing some stories in my own fantasy world for several last years. I just want to ask you if I should rewrite it to English and post it here, so here is something about it: All stories are set in "open-source" (explained later) fantasy world, in story created by magical creature in a form of giant lion named "Ajkel" (have to re-think the name). This world have its own history and everything, since I'm fan of Tolkien, I want to made my fantasy world as developed and elaborated as it's possible. It's mixture of fantasy, history and sci-fi, placed on a planet called "Akelie" in a bilion light-years far galaxy called "Gafu" (please, not "Dafuq" Main races: 1. Lions. Looks like just oversized lions, but they are very wise, clever and inteligent. They're also very technologically developed, their technologies are based of magic (since lions are magical creatures at all). If you're a human, lions are just "These big cats you shouldn't make angry." 2. Elves. Maybe a cliché, but just same Tolkien-like elves as we know them. Some time back, they also tried technologies, but since elves are kinda lazy, they rather buy they devices and machines from lions. Lions love meat and elves know that very well! 3. Dragons. Classical dragons as we know them. Ancient race of wise flying reptiles. In a distant past, they were biggest enemies of lions, but then lions almost wiped them out and saved them back and today, dragon are every lion's best friend. If you tease a lion and it won't kill you with claws or magic, you may be sure that dragon will show up to turn you into ash. 4. Dwarves. Since they're always drunk as f*ck, they also buy they machines and devices from lions. Every elf knows lions eat meat, but they also need metals and other materials to make goodies so dwarves quarry minerals in their mines for "furballs". 5. Humans. Do I have to say anything? 6. Weehaia. Distant relatives of elves, but on another planet. They are here because Ajkel, lazy as hell, left some ancient elves on their planet. This funny wolrd also offers you comic situations like these: 1. You're in a magical medieval-looking city of elves. Why don't you go just in the middle of street? Because young elves likes to drive very fast in their Mercedes-Benz cars they stolen at Earth! 2. You just left the castle where you have an argument with Ice Queen. You're running, but not because she is so angry so she wants to see you dying, but because you just saw a landing starship and you don't want to meet lion(s) coming out of it. Now what I mean when I say "open-source fantasy world". It's not just like open-source software, but there are some similarities: 1. There is main creator of it, but you can help him with creating and/or improving characters, places, etc. 2. You can freely make stories or games or characters or whatever with things from it, but you shows it to original creator. That may be useful, because then he knows there's some interest about it (motivation to keep going) and your creation is advertised on site as well (if you want to). So, here are my questions: 1. Would you like to read a wiki about that world (it exists in Czech language, I want to know if I should also make that wiki in English)? 2. The most important question: should I translate the stories and post them on Rivendell's forum? 3. Would you like to use that world and/or it's characters in your stories, games, etc.? P.S.: Sorry for my English if it's very bad.

Interesting. I think you have to say something about Humans - from Mercedes Benz part I guessed they are just like now, so your world is alternative XX/XXI (or should I use binary? ) century, just like Steampunk is alternative XIX century. But if there are other civilizations around, humans can't just be same like they are in reality - for example, are they dominating like they are in reality? If not, aren't they fighting to dominate? You are breaking with convention of dwarves being constructors. Instead, they are just miners. I can understand this, they're drunk all the time, so they're not really inventive, but the alcohol gives them stamina for hard mining work. The problem I see is that you introduce a new race - lions - by cost of oversimplifying Dwarves and Elves, they become just prosaic miners and hunters. I've ran into a similar problem, and I think the thing is not to give every race a particular role, but to give them a dominant attribute; in the end every civilization needs constructors, hunters etc. to be self-sufficient, otherwise they are too reliant on other civilizations to survive in the long run. In a realistic scenario, all civilizations would be similar to each other, as: 1) like I said, every civilization is a subject of a strive to survive, and so I wouldn't expect aliens from another planet to not know so important concepts as a lie, a war etc, 2) If civilizations are near to each-other, they tend to take best solutions of their neighbors. So IMHO differences should be subtle, but it's your job as the narrator to cleverly outline them. Ad 1. Not really, I don't like wiki structure, it tends to have thousands of two-lines definitions and is very raw, not really making the world interesting. Wiki is good as an encyclopedia, if you want to look some specific thing up, not when you just want to learn about the world. Ad 2. I'd like, but keep in mind this community is very small and it may be not rewarding for the time spent into translating. Ad 3. Nope, I'm creating my own world, but I potentially would like to use some ideas, that is, if it's not on BSD license

Thak you for ideas. I have lots of white spaces in elvish and dwarven history, adding something like ancient machine built by dwarf (who is so drunk so he doesn't know that he/she made it) or explanation of why elves don't make their own computers instead of buying them from lions is something my work really needs. I always write some "concept" and improve it by adding details - so I need it with these races, to explain why in the world are lions trading goodies with elves instead of eating them. And also why they don't just wipe out other races. And also...

About Mercedes-Benz cars - I, idiot, forgot that my world also have history - so there are parts where there weren't any cars. First part is about magical dragons hunting dinosaurs, the last is about people creating spacecraft and finding lion starships above "their" homeworld.

I have it in wiki-form because I use that wiki when I'm writing, but later I'm planning a book of explanation (some time back I created it, so it won't be so hard).

PS: No, it's in GNU - use it freely, but write where you took inspiration. Some guy here does it by writing something like "Based on ... by Myghael, the ..." with link to my site. Just like GNU.
