So, I'm not very active in the best of times, but some major bad luck prevented me from coming on. The short story is had a landlord that decided not to cover our internet even though it was in our lease and we were too poor to get it ourselves. We did later try to take her to court and she ended up making a settlement. We've since moved and though I'm dealing with some Crohn's attacks again, things are generally better. In reintroduction, I'm James StarRunner. I love game design, voice-acting, writing, and drawing. I'm no big shot, but I'm especially good in game design. I just don't have the health to be in any big studios. One of my instructors for game design worked on Advanced Dungeons & Dragons. She would never give an A on the final, believing there is always room for improvement. Well, I was the first one she gave an A to. My program director took special notice too. I'm currently going the indie route so I can concentrate on my health when needed. I'm developing a game right now, but it's still going to take time before it's finished. Won't be too fancy as I have little to no budget, but hopefully it will later open the door to something better. I see the level system I had come up with in here is still in use! Has anyone reached level 40 yet?

Welcome back, James! As far as I know, no one has reached the vaunted Level 40, yet; Lord Elrond himself is Level 32. I know there were some other users who were way up there in level, but I haven't seen them on in quite some time. Great job on the game design course, and I wish you the best of luck on your endeavors! I have some aspirations in that regard, as well. I'm 43 but I went back to college/university in late 2014 and I have continued ever since. I'm closing in on a 4-year degree in computer science, and I'm continuing to complete a master's degree in computer science (concentrating on intelligent systems, interactive computing, and data science) by 2020. I'm taking courses in video game programming, computer graphics, computer animation and gaming, and virtual reality, among AI, machine learning and various data-science courses. I've been a tabletop gamer since I was 14 years old, and a computer gamer since the early age of desktop computers (my first games were text adventures, King's Quest, and other such dawn-of-computer-gaming creations). My chief love is game design, however. And keep fighting that horrible disease! I have a cousin who is fighting it. I hope you go far in your passion for game design.

I wish I had been able to finish my program. I ended up having to go to the hospital and even with a doctor's note, I wasn't allowed back in. Really stupid of the school, I know. I appealed their decision, but didn't get far with it. My program director was really upset and he's since moved schools. So, I'm self teaching now and it's a struggle at times.

I may be nearly a decade younger, but I too remember playing text adventure games (Zork anyone?) and later some text parser games from the Sierra days. Kings's Quest was wonderful, but I think my fav has to be Quest for Glory! Just wish the Coles had reached their all their stretch goals for their new game... It would have had voice acting and Lori wanted to give me a shot at voicing their new protagonist. I'll still play their new game when it comes out of course. And who knows, maybe later they will get to add voice acting in later versions!
