Hi all *nix-nerds!
I am running the stream server on Ubuntu 15.10, but should really go for 16.04 LTS since it's out. Anybody know of any issues with LiquidSoap or Icecast 2? I don't want to break our lovely stream now since it's more reliable than ever

15.10 goes end of support in July -- so that's important.
We've tested 16.04 a bit in my office, but not for radio streaming. There is some trouble involving suPHP (or so I'm told by office-mate/sysadmin), so we cannot transition from 14.04 at this time. But unless your streaming system relies on suPHP (I think unlikely) then our problem isn't your problem. :/

To be of further confusion and non-help ;
I just installed Xubuntu16.04 on two laptops an HP15 and a Toshiba C55 ,
but Xubuntu borked the Acer Cloudbook AO1-431 (seems I've "bricked it" good,
it will no longer boot a USB stick past the firmware shell)
On a brighter note, Linux Lite 3.0 did ok on my custom retro-fitted I-7 desktop Amiga3000 desktop case conversion {like a steambox now}
After mucking about with Linux Lite , I saw Manjaro 16 released, and now my Amiga-4790k steambox is all Manjaro XFCE now.
/sarc Anyone got any narrow smallish fan suggestions for an SFX Amiga3000 case? XD /sarc

A thought I just had...
Elrond, would it be possible for you to create a test VM? That is recreate the stream server on Ubuntu 16.04 in a VM and wrangle up some volunteers to test it out? That way the 15.10 stream server can stay up while you discover/document any kinks and fixes in 16.04.
I use VMs to test my code before it leaves my workstation for either source control or production. I use Oracle VirtualBox, but any decent VM system should do fine.

Yeah, a VM with 16.04 would be alright I guess. Shouldn't be too hard to test it out. Though it would take some time

Ah, I just did the dist upgrade to 16.04 as there were some issues with the stream anyways. Now everything seems fine! Cross your fingers

Firstly, congrats on the Linux update! I had noticed there were troubles with the stream, last Friday. But today the music seems to be playing very well.
And secondly, at the office -- I don't seem to be getting any song metadata in iTunes (or maybe any metadata that iTunes recognizes). VLC is getting song metadata under "now playing" but it appears that is not something I can have displayed on the front-end.
This is a small niggly-thing, to be sure. But once in a while, either I or office-mate/sysadmin will hear a song and would want to quickly lookup the title/composer on the music player's front-end. This was working on the main server (but not the various mirrors) before the update.
And while I'm here: I know you had asked about a low-bandwidth AAC stream before and there wasn't much interest. But I was recently thinking that it may be fun for anyone who wants to play RR over 3G or 4G/LTE on their smartphone -- especially for anyone whose smartphone data plans are either metered or capped.

Hmmm... did we have track info earlier (before the update, but after the server change)? I haven't updated IceCast or LiquidSoap... or at least I don't think so. I remember not seeing it in iTunes after the server change (before this 16.04 upgrade).

In the office I have iTunes on a Macintosh. At home, I either use iTunes on my aging Macbook or use Winamp (yup, still!) on my Windows 7 desktop PC. Originally after the server change, iTunes was not displaying any song information -- but neither was the website player. When you fixed the website player to display song information, my iTunes was picking it up too (except not from mirror sites). You did the update to Ubuntu 16.04 and I stopped getting song information in iTunes.
Now here's what's gonna make your hair fall out: I always got song information displayed in Winamp through all this time, from server change to now. Winamp displayed song information when the website couldn't! All I can figure is that there is some niggly issue with how the server sends metadata, and different players don't all look for the metadata in the same way.

Yes, I've noticed that Winamp is much better than iTunes at this. iTunes used to work with Shoutcast 1.9.x but since we've moved to IceCast this seems to have died on us. Or iTunes is just lazy and cannot read the meta properly. Hmm...
