Every character has his unique personality. I don't know about you but I tend to get very creative with the looks or objects they have.
So here is a thread where we can gather ideas on objects characters may have or objects that make them noticable (magic or not).

I go first!
I once played a female fighter that had a red cloak with hood. When we killed with the party a polar dire bear she took fur back to the finest sempstress of the city asked her to procces the fur and put it on the inside of the cloak.
So she ended up with a red cloak with a white dire bear fur on the inside.
(and the nickname: Red Riding hood)

Once in some very hardcore postapo rpg we had only 100$ (not really dollars but whatever) to spend in shop. And as the prices were really high it was hard to get the equipment to even survive. So I ended up by making additional thermo isolation by buying cheap foil (the one you wrap sandwiches in), and wrap myself around it, under the coat
. I thought it could fit here as something creative.

Hahaahaaa... I tried to picture that.... Good thinking though...
In games with no resources the only way to survive is thinking and item creation feats.

Myghael, the Lord of Absurdity
Well, some times ago in one mixed fantasy/sci-fi rpg, I played elven magician who had magical lightning-shooting sword and (of course magical) something-like-computer within it. That sword had also it's own personality and great inteligence.
It kllled everyone who tried to steal it.
The legend said that sword always chosen it's owner. Luckily it chose me.

Intelligent weapons FTW!
I never had the luck to own one...
A friend of mine had a twin blade sword, it even had a name... She called her( yes it was a she..) "Justice".
Maybe we should open a new thread for weapons and armor in which we write all their traits....

I like my magic items to have some soul. In my recent Dungeon World campaign we decided that magic is a manifestation of spirit. The stronger the magic, the stronger the spirit. This gave magic items actual personality, to the extent that some amounted to NPCs. Below are some excerpts from the campaign wiki: The similarity to say, The One Ring from Tolkien's works, should be obvious.
Heroslayer
A grim-looking, razor-sharp cold iron knife adorned only with a single, immaculately cut ruby in it’s pommel. Possibly the artifact the Elves are the most reluctant to admit to ever having wrought, it has garnered infamy since it’s creators were young. The bloody spirit of the blade hungers for the souls of the great and powerful, and tries to bend any who grasp it to it’s murderous will. All who succumb find themselves capable of wielding the weapon with preternatural ease. The Heroslayer’s victims are beyond counting.
The Iron Crown
A headband of black iron with twelve tips of weapons for spikes, this is a grim and heavy piece of regalia. The Iron Crown is the vessel of the souls of twelve legendary generals, each with different fields of expertise. Consumed by their desire to fight and win wars, they are ever eager to impart their wisdom and knowledge to any that would wear the Crown for conquest and glory. The bearer of The Iron Crown gains an almost tangible air of authority that is very difficult to resist. Its bearer is never long without an army to command.
These two items were artifact-level heavy-hitters. At the other end of the scale there were the Deep Elf moccasins that made the wearer completely silent. The flipside was that this also precluded speech. The PCs never got to use them, so the nature of the moccasins' spirit was left open, but I did enjoy the side-effect.
There's more in the item section of the wiki.

This reminds me of one time I was playing a campaign as a crossbow-wielding rogue and the Dungeon Master kept throwing undead at us. I was getting a bit frustrated at my uselessness because piercing attacks were pretty weak against them and I couldn't sneak attack undead. Fortunately the party had saved up a ton of gold, so next time we were in a major city I tried to find and purchase a holy morningstar. The DM used it as an opportunity to harass me even more though because it turned out to be an intelligent weapon and it would argue with him all the time, plus lighting up at the worst moments spoil his concealment. In the end it was still a good purchase because we faced some epic undead bosses as the campaign progressed. So my rogue became a better person as a result of his friendship with the weapon.
My personal favourite of the objects I have encountered in games was a barkskin mask our party found in little cave among some weaponry. The mask allowed its wearer to speak with fairies, elementals and other spirits of the nature. It could only be used by someone who was friend with the nature, or otherwise something terrible would happen. Unfortunately we never found out what it was because my character was a druid and it could wear it safely.
The mask caused plenty of hilarity. My character was already a bit weird fellow but when he but the mask on he got even weirder. With the mask on, to the outsiders his movements looked like bouncing and sprinting and dancing and no one could understand him because his speech was chirping and giggling and snarling.

One time I was playing a Kender Thief who had some how gotten a hold of a cursed ring that caused her to be completely honest. It was also the beginning of the campaign which was basically a meet and greet of each person's character in a tavern and my character just decided to steal something from a fighter who had an attack dog trained to ignore high pitched whistling sounds. You can probably guess how this turned out.

Belt of Brawn
This broad belt is intricately braided from sinew harvested from creatures famous for their strength. The wearer of this item can hit harder, haul more, and lift things overhead they'd never have gotten above their knees before. Unfortunately, the wearer cannot properly master their unnatural strength, and are thus unusually prone to break things by accident.
Diadem of Arcane Dreams
This headband consists of square panels of metallic brocade representing sleeping figures amidst arcane symbols, and the panels are held together by a silver-embroidered band of indigo silk. A single disc-shaped diamond the size of a coin hangs from the front, settling between the wearer's brows.
Any individual of magical talent who wears this while they sleep delves into the confusing, usually nightmarish depths of their own psyche, discovering secrets to the handling of magical patterns. Although such convoluted dreams are always an unpleasant experience, the wearer wakes to a feeling of arcane power, an increase in magical might that holds throughout the day.

Bow of Dark Dreams
Targets struck by this bow at range suffer waking nightmares. The bow is also equipped with a sword blade on each limb, making it an effective close-combat weapon as well. The bow is able to use arrows, but can also manifest arrows of pure shadow as well.

Fangsword of the Ice Wolf
Named Svellbrandr - This sword was forged from the fang of the Ice Wolf, which was all that remained of the beast after being slain and thrown into the sun by Leman of the Russ tribe. This was embedded in Leman's leg, and exuded a freezing aura that chilled the blood of lesser being, truly a testament to the Wolf-King's fortitude that he survived. He ordered his men to forge it into a sword, the better for him to smite his enemies.
Helfrost special rule: when a target is wounded by this blade, it must pass a strength test (Or equivalent) for each point of damage taken or be removed from the battle.

Serpentine Sash
This black cloth is made of very strong yet thin spidersilk, and features a subtle pattern, like boa scales. Each sash has a name, and when it is whispered close to the fabric the cloth comes alive. Then, the user can direct the sash's movements with a thought as long as they hold on to it. The sash can move and twist freely, and can easily support the weight of two grown men. At rest the sash is about a dozen feet long, but can stretch to 50 feet when animated.
Repeating the sash's name will make it return to its wielder's hand and go still. If released before this, however, the animated sash turns into a black constrictor snake of the length the sash was stretched out to and attacks the former user. The sash will stay a snake until either it or the user is killed. Killing the snake ruins the sash.
