I thought at first to create a topic about The Last of Us, but it's pointless to write a review here, and if it would be just a short recommendation, the topic would die pretty quickly. Instead it could be a place where we share and discuss great story experiences in games. The Last of Us is a PS 3 game by Sony. The gameplay interlaces survival and sneaking type of action like in Metro game. As I have no PS, I decided to watch it being played by Polish streamer Maciej Makuła and I wasn't disappointed. It doesn't have many great dialogue lines, but by watching "cut-scenes only" compilation on Youtube you could probably enjoy it a lot. A factor that helps is awesome graphics - you can see lack of AA in some places, but characters look realistic, their eyes are alive and their mimics are astonishing. Starcraft II: The Wings of Liberty is Blizzard's RTS, the most popular (if not defeated by LoL yet) e-sports game. Even though it's multiplayer mode is so important, the single player is still great, and my friend who watched cutscenes on Youtube (I just played the game) said he felt like watching a good movie (and me and my friend are very choosy). The same applies to Heart of the Swarm expansion - Blizzard puts a lot of work into creating co-called lore. stories about the world it creates, and it adds an extra depth to storyline in their games; after playing WoL I wondered how the hell they will make an expansion where you play Zerg race (evil monsters) on a good side - they managed to write such story that has sense.

Though its an older game series, I'd highly recommend Halo, specifically the first three games, for story. Its very in depth and there's a whole expanded universe created in movies, cartoons, books and comics. However the franchise was recently taken from the original company by Microsoft and given to a new, inexperienced company which has resulted in inferior games recently. Its also an Xbox exclusive which is a big downer, but i'd still highly recommend it.

In my opinion I would have to recommend SIerra games. (Kings Quest, Space Quest, etc...) Or more recently the GrimLegends stuff from Artifex Mundi = Artifexmundi.com (though they may be for a younger audience)

The Gothic series. Most notably Gothic 1 and Gothic 2. How the first one begins is I think one of the best starts to a game ever. You aren't anyone already destined to become something. You aren't some bad ass warrior, or magic wielding wizard. You are just a lowly criminal who gets forced into a labor camp. Only by your actions do you amount to anything. The ending is pretty lackluster but this game is all about the journey, the destination doesn't matter so much. The first Mass Effect is also a great story. Something the other two couldn't quite match in how well it was done. The other two games are good, but Mass Effect 1 story telling is just so well done.

Playing Witcher 3 now and it's great. Witcher 2 gameplay didn't appeal to me, so I didn't really get its story (I watched Youtube compilation of cutscenes), and Witcher 1 had definitely a bad story – it had a great, dark setting (something quite fresh at the time of it's release), and some nice dialogues, but as for the main story plot – it was terrible:

1. Prologue in Kaer Morhen was a very nice start.

2. Then suddenly the plot is suspended by act 1, where 95% of things that happen have absolutely no connection with the rest of the story.

3. In act 2 and 3 you continue the main plot. There was so many side quests (and these quests were so nice), that I felt no significance of the main plot whatsoever; maybe that's just me though.

4. Act 4... No comment.

5. I couldn't deal with Act 4, but I watched my girlfriend play Act 5 and what was happening there seemed so stupid.

So I am currently working my way through "God of War", the one released for the PS4. Overall, I'm impressed with the story so far. zmy last session did have me going "Thats Really out of character" for one person, but I am many hours in and happy with what I have played so far.
