I looked through the forums, but found no page about larp, so I'll start it.
So, do you play it? What genre was your favorite one? What is your favorite system?
I love it, but I've only been on two, both were fantasy. My favorite was named, Elthilion and it was about a horde of barbarians that plunder the city of Elthilion each year, but this year the duke of Elthillion called for the help of the king to defend the city. I fought for Elthlion, but fell, like the rest of my comrades, but it was awesome.

There are two archetypes:
Theatre, in which before the start, you create or are given a created character, which you play for at the game, dress yourself like the character and invole yourself in the story of the game, fulfill quests etc, it's like live DnD. There can be fighting, which works like in the other type, but it is not necessary to spill blood at a whole game. It is played in a theme-looking enviroment, a castle is often rented for the game.
Battle, where you just take your foam sword (or your foam weapon of choice), an outfit fitting the games setting, join a side, go on some meadow and hack the other side with your weapon. When you give them enough damage to kill them, they are dead (oh, really?) and they can't fight, but can usually heal themselves in some way. Elthilion was a battle Larp. These larps are awesome.

Ok. How do you know when the other person is dead? Is it on an honor system?

Yes, everyone tells the other when hit, or at least stops when dies, you have to play fair.

That makes sense. Just hope that you aren't playing with jerks I suppose.

I'd imagine there's some kind of refereeing system.... isn't there?

It must be fun! I have some knowledge in kendo and in the use of Longsword (Longsword of Lichtenauer which is a german style of two handed sword fighting). I think that I would like to test my knowledge on some orcs or a daemon perhaps! hehe!

Crayauchtin- referring system, what do you mean?
Panthalas- Try it! It's awesome! Try contacting some local group of Larpers, it is common that they go out and train together, you could join them on a training and try it out with a borrowed weapon!

Jumaj,
I would like to, but here in Greece these things are not so popular. We have created a Longsword club in the university gym with some friends of mine. I also have made a knight's costume by myself which i wore in the carnival. I will upload a picture when I go home

Oi! I resemble that remark!

No, jumaj, I meant a system to referee the fights. A refereeing system. In case someone isn't playing fair.

Never met with any referee system, I've only seen the honor system.
Oh, it would be a dream come true for me to LARP. If only there were places in my area that have it. I even have the cute outfit and everything. *le sigh*

Where are you, and what type of LARP are you interested in?
Ideally, medieval LARP since I have the outfits for it and it looks like fun. I live in New York.
