A kickstarter for a very intetesting french game is still in the process who goes out by the name " Shadows Of Esteren".

SoE is a medieval low fantasy gothic horror PnP RPG. It's a combination of Call of Cthullu and Game of Thrones.

I've already have the "Book 0 & 1" and are now waiting for the "Book 2" in the pdf version, and by far the game seems very intetesting, flexible and simple...

Looking good! The Interlock-style core mechanic is solid, and the Ways - ability scores as assets and complications - are a very nice touch that promises oodles of characterization through action. I imagine this system encourages character-centred, fairly gritty play. Shadows of Esteren might just do for gritty low fantasy what The One Ring did for heroic fantasy - justice! There have been several attempts at horror in a fantasy setting in recent years. Of these I've only gotten to play Lamentations of the Flame Princess (which, although a rather nice streamlining of original D&D, fails completely to support the horror element through mechanics) and Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 3rd edition (which, although innovative and possessing a wonderful core system, could use some polish). It's hard to say how well Shadows of Esteren handles horror based on this sample, but I at least like the idea of latent disorders. When a character finally goes mad, as befits the genre, the player will have been prepared throughout the campaign and is more likely to be able to play it more comfortably and consistently. I'm quite tempted to buy this myself, but I've already got a pile of systems I haven't gotten to try out yet. Perhaps some day! And in the meantime I'll be recommending it to others.
