I do not know if any of you have been staying on top of the developments of the Grand History of the Realms or the implications it holds for the Realms. But if you do and you want to try an make a difference, there are things you can do. The first thing is that you can register on the Candlekeep forums (if you have not already) and vote on how you feel about the changes that are implied at the end of the Grand History of the Realms. The second thing you can do is go to the D&D Forgotten Realms forums and tell us why you love the Realms. Thanks, Hawkins

Just thought I'd mention how much I love the forgotten Realms. I really, really do. Fingers crossed they'll come up with virtual reality: D&D. Gah, I'm drooling now...

Wow, my original post is almost a year old. Anyways, how were you introduced to the Realms?

Well, someone I know once bought me a game titled Neverwinter Nights 2. I didn't know anything about it, but I thought I'd give it a whirl. However, the graphics were terrible, so I pushed it aside and forgot about it. One day, though, I heard it mentioned again, so I did some research on it, and started to play it again. I looked past the graphics, and saw the story and the world for what it was. And I loved what I saw. Thus, I became a D&D addict, even though I only have NWN2 and Mask of the Betrayer.

Well, if you like the world and you like reading, I suggest that you check out some of the novels as well. Particularly those by Elaine Cunningham, Paul S. Kemp, Ed Greenwood (the creator of the Realms) and R. A. Salvatore (the most popular of the Realms authors). There are other good writers (and some bad ones) as well, but I think that these stand a bit above the rest. Also, if you try one of these writers and their particular style does not appeal to you, just try another one. I am always available for suggestions as well.

Richard Awlinson is actually a pseudonym. The first two books attributed to him (Shadowdale and Tantras) are by Scott Ciencin, and the third one (Waterdeep) is by Troy Denning.

My personal recommendation would be to stay away from novels by Philip Athens (esp. the Baldur's Gate novelizations).

Are they not very good? In your opinion, I mean, because you probably wouldn't be able to say based on my tastes and preferences.

In my opinion, Phil Athens should stick to being the editor of Realms novels and not write any himself. I greatly dislike his writing style.
