A week-and-a-half ago I moved from Seoul, South Korea to Chiang Mai, Thailand. What a difference between the two cities. Seoul has mountains and tall buildings and small pieces of sky. On a good night I could see three or four stars. Lots of light pollution. Lots of traffic. Cars and buses and motorcycles and pollution. Big crowds. Lots of noise. Chiang Mai sits near Doi Suthep, or Mount Suthep (sue-teh-ep). The Ping River flows near the city. There are very few tall buildings. I can see mountains on the horizon, and I can see a vast sky with beautiful sunrises and sunsets. My room is on the tenth floor and faces south, so I can watch the sunrise and the sunset. The moon soon will be full, so I am looking forward to the new moon and seeing the stars again. It is flat land, beautiful and green. I am blessed to be here.

Just Trinidad CA here, nothing all that exotic unless you like redwoods-by-the-sea.

Moving to Ubon Ratchithani in a few weeks. Need to spend one week in Bangkok first. Crazy times ahead.

There is Udon Thani which is south of Nong Khai. There is Ubon Ratchithani, which is southeast of Roi Et, and west of Surin. It is about two hours southwest of the my old stomping grounds of Suwannaphum. Both are located in Isaan, the NE part of Thailand.

Aah, no burning hell like from the place where the Balrogs come from then Close enough. "Isaan" is named after a Hindu god of death. One of the incarnations of Shiva, I believe. No Balrogs, but maybe closer to the gates of Mordor than one would feel comfortable being without an elven cloak to cover them. I heard that the Prancing Pony has a new snack called Balrog Wings. Very tasty, too. Regular, extra crispy, extra smoky flavor, and vegetarian, as well.
