So I've seen alot of nifty avatars, but its obvious that many are just cuts from a larger picture, some of which look really good. So I thought it would be fun to see where the avatars came from.
Mine is called "Fire Wizard" and it's by the amazing artist Myles Pinkney:
www.mylespinkney.com/gallery/paintingLarge.html?painting=fireWizard
Some of his other work is downright overwhelmingly incredible, but there's one more which I think particularly matches this site. He did one of Gandalf smoking in Bag End:

Where are your avatars from?

Friggin Lord Elrond!
My avatar may not be as professional looking but it was a gift art done by Danielle "Tavorna" Charman who kindly drew my avatar Sapient duXianin riding upon his noble mare, Obsidian.

I think we should work through our collective art collections and find poor Elrond a painted version of Elrond!

Friggin Lord Elrond!
I found this picture a long time ago, I don't even remember where I got it from. But I still think it's beautiful!

Using my access to an awesome art sorting program your picture is a deviant by an artist who goes by Verdant:
verdant.deviantart.com/art/Dragon-and-Phoenix-Union-54431346
I really like that art style, it's all floaty in the color schemes. Some of the more recent artwork is stunning!

Wauw thanks, that is really awesome! What is the name of the program you're using? I'd like to try it on a few other pictures.
I love the artwork, it is painted in such a way, that my mind is almost automatically making up story's about it. Awesome!

Sorry Pianoster, I missed your question until this topic got bumped up again. The program I use is Tineye which is a massive web search database that only searches images. They have some nifty software algorithms that detects similar pictures and let's you see the links. I use it to check for original photos where people claim they made a picture and I find it elsewhere on the web with an earlier datestamp. It's also REALLY handy for your use, where I find a cool picture, but it's only part of it, or I want to find the author, like in yours.

Google graphics search got same functionality, and, by my tests, it gives better (more rich) results. Although Tin eye results are more clear and grouped nicely.
