Radio Rivendell Fantasy Awardsmaven
Honoured – Lvl 22
Ah, isn't it just about time we start throwing out suggestions for this year's Fantasy Awards nominees? What's been your favorite music of the year?
My pick is for the soundtrack to the TV show, "Legend of the Seeker" by Joseph DoLuca
Best artwork? I love Tinc's cover art for her book "Hidden Moon".

Wow, not a single response yet. Maybe after the holidays, when things are less crazy, we'll all have time to think about it. But until then, here's an incomplete list of some fantasy music that came out in 2009 (and I'm not advocating any of these should/shouldn't be nominated. It's just a list):

Awww, thank you!!!!
I'd like to nominate the Tudors season 2 for best TV soundtrack. I'll have to give some thought to the rest...

Aaaawww Maven, you are just great!
This puts a sword in my head for not picking the voting winners for 2008 yet, THOUGH... I have prepared for everything and made a nice functionality for picking them out easier
Does anyone remember if we needed to change the categories a little for this year?
Thanks again Mav for starting this!

I would suggest a "Best Fantasy Film" category, but I am worried that it might give the Twilight Saga a chance to win. And that would be a travesty. Also, we would need to concur on what was a fantasy movie or not.

True. I put some stuff in the list that I personally like, but isn't strictly fantasy...

Do we have enough of suggestions? They've had the Oscars now and we should give the masses our response to the fantasy events as well

I don't think we have enough in every category, but we probably have enough to get started...

Haha, oh yes! I've been working a little with my scripts too. Earlier I had to manually add and manage everything into the database. Now it should be much easier for me to get it started

Alright people!
I've sat down and listened through a little and made some decision lords can do
I will cut some categories since we don't have much input.
But what I want to fill is "Best Song by Independent Composer"! Rub your brain cells! I want four. I think I'll nominate Born of Hope by Rob Westwood for the first nominations here. But please help! Then we'll be able to finally launch this.
Also start to work on this years nominations We should start a thread for that already where you can write things when you hear them

I agree with Elrond. Nominate the entire soundtrack from the fan-film Born of Hope (composers: Tobias Bublat, Adam Langston, Jacob Shelby, Kevin Webster, Rob Westwood, David Finnamore, Jonathan Glew et. al.)
I've just downloaded and am listening to it. Wow! It's as good as ANYTHING Hollywood has put out this year. Sounds very professionally composed & recorded, rich orchestration, reminiscent of Shore's work without being a rip-off of it.

Umm. So, are we skipping 2009? I mean, it wasn't the best year ever, but the soundtrack wasn't bad.

No, we're still working on 2009 - that's how behind we are!
But it wouldnt hurt to start gathering ideas for 2010, too...

Ugh. I was a project manager in another life, and dangling deliverables like this give me the hives. Do we have a full set of 2009 candidates? I saw Maven's initial list and the few comments that followed. If we need more, maybe we should post that in a prominent area, set a date, and go with what we have when it passes. What's the voting process?

It's me who is slow. I have however picked most of the things. We have a smaller lineup for 2009 and I think we'll stick with that and get it over with so we can focus on 2010 later down the road. We better start writing down nomination ideas right now. So we don't forget
I have spent some time building the new administration and voting engine. It has taken some time but it will make it quicker for next year for sure. So if we gather everything for 2010 DURING 2010 I'll enter that into the system and we'll work from there rather than sitting here 7 months late and trying to remember I'm the slow villain here
