The Eye of Argon. Try reading bits of it out loud with your deepest, most solemn storytelling voice. Did you manage to?

There is some speculation wether it is actually genuine or just some crazy experiment done by a legitimate fantasy author. Still, it is one of the most hilarious things you'll come across in all of fantasy literature.

I get the feeling that the folks behind Kung Fury could make a great film adaption of The Eye of Argon.

Check Wikipedia for the background on this "classic." It is real. It does exist and it was written by Jim Theis. He was 16 at the time and took it seriously. Link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Eye_of_Argon

Hmm, Interesting. Seems ok for a 16 year old kid. I'm going to hold my negatives, because my first attempt is likely to be unimpressive. Maybe if and when I can get some of it fleshed out, I'll post parts of it here for critique. It would be helpful, in my opinion, to have someone like Otto sh*t on my work so I can make sure it doesn't totally suck.

The Oulu University gaming club played The Eye of Argon drinking game at one of their pub nights. That was brutal...

What we did was read it aloud in turns - when you no longer could keep a straight face you had to take a drink and pass the script to the person to your left. None of us English Majors could hack it for very long... X)

I can't blame the author, though. Even masters of the written word have produced - or even published - text that is no more tasteful as "The Eye of Argon".
