I would like to know your experience and opinions with ORPing?
Do you do it only text based or do you use voice/video with Skype, MSN etc.
What Genre/Game do you play? Would somebody be interested to GM or to play?
I prefer Pathfinder, but if somebody is able and willing to GM other RPGs I'm willing to play

For now we only text and post. But since our little roleplaying community is growing this could change...

It's a new roleplaying adventure looking for players. It's not pathfinder but it's something.
I have a whip of banning (+3magic) and I 'm not afraid to use it!
My experience about online roleplaying unfortunately quite poor. I got bored easily with forum rpgs because of their slow pace. I am shamed to admit that I am one of those players who just leaves (read: forgets) the game without saying anything. I am trying to change my habits, so fear not.
For those reasons I have avoided frpgs til now. At the moment I'm playing in two (soon three) frpgs and I hope my intrest will last. I have noticed that it helps if you have irl friend in the same game with you. Keeps you motivated when somebody you see almost everyday reminds you every now and then.
And what comes to skype rpgs and such, I have no experience. I once had chance to try rpg via skype but I think the campaign never started in the end. The cocept is very interesting though and I would be willing to try some day.
The genres I play... Well, almost everything goes. I haven yet to meet a genre I didn't like. About the games I play, I like simple indie systems the best. The less you have to throw the dice and the more you can describe things, the better. I must say that I'm more player than a gm though being a gm is something I would like to get better at.
So far I've only ever done text based (which has been positive while interest in the game lasts), or very briefly, RP in an MMO, (much poorer experience as many, even on an RP server don't really role play - or grasp what role play is). I'd be interested in trying Skype or Google Hangouts as an option but I'm not sure how that would play out. I suppose it wouldn't be much different than pen and paper play. The only difficulty I could foresee is the matter of timezones. In the one RPG I just joined I seem to be the only one playing from North America. Even when I work overnights there's an issue since all others would be well into the wee hours, but I digress.

Other problem with skype and others like it is the internet connection. If the connection is not good enough it may drop you off the conversation which causes unnecessary breaks in the game and is, in general, annoying to all participants.
If you want to organise skype rpg without time zone problems, you should tell the players that they must be tops 1 or 2 time zones from you. If they are further away they can't participate.

Suppose I forgot to mention in my last post that there are two 'active' games going on RR; The Bard's Ale Tavern which is pretty open and anyone can jump in at anytime and;
Shadows from the Mountain which I just started but is more structured than Bard's Ale. If you're interested in this one I'd suggest you pm the GM, Ardac.
Happy Hunting!

Currently my online roleplaying consists of the two forum games Silmay linked to above. I'm new to the format, but so far I've enjoyed it immensely!
I've played in a couple of play-by-email Amber campaigns, though, only unfortunately those weren't very long-lived. The diceless system worked brilliantly, and since everyone played, in essence, divine beings, there was a lot of latitude in what you could depict. We had some wonderful scenes there. Part of the charm was that no one knew who played which character, so you couldn't assume anything (this led to some bluffing contests).
A few times I've run games so that one of the players joined via Skype. Mostly it worked out well, but once or twice the connection was so bad that they couldn't stay online and we had to hook them up via speakerphone. I haven't tried Google Hangouts but I've heard good things about it.
I prefer Pathfinder
Have you checked out virtual tabletops like Roll20? They seem to be perfect for games that use miniatures. Might also be a nifty tool for planning encounters. Ever thought about running a game yourself?

Well, fortunately there are quite a few night owls among gamers...
