While Friggin' Lord Elrond puts the finishing touches on 2009 (he promised!), let's get started with 2010. No need to wait until the last minute and forget what you were loving in January. If I understand it correctly (FLE sets the rules), these are the essential categories, although we might have others if we have enough credible nominations. Three, I believe, is the minimum. Here's what I've culled so far from previous posts:
    ***********

I'll be editing this post as new suggestions come back in. Note that, according to the Rule of Three (I just made that up), we need at least 3 credible nominations for a category to remain. I mean, there's no point in being awarded "Best Forum Post by a Guy Named 'c0c0c0'" if you're the only one who does that sort of thing.

Ooh, goodie, thanks for setting this up, c0c0c0! (How do you pronounce your name?) I have some suggestions: Best Fantasy Film or TV Soundtrack: Alice in Wonderland by Danny Elfman Robin Hood by Marc Streitenfeld Robin Hood : Darkwood to Hollywood 2010 documentary Percy Jackson And The Olympians: The Lightning Thief by Christophe Beck Clash Of The Titans by Ramin Djawadi Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time by Harry Gregson-Williams (some or all of the above proving once again that you don't have to have a great movie to have a good soundtrack) (more coming as the summer movies continue to roll out...) Best Fantasy Game Soundtrack: Darksiders by Cris Velasco, Mike Reagan & Scott Morton Dante’s Inferno by Garry Schyman Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands (Original Game Soundtrack) by Steve Jablonsky & Penka Kouneva Best Fantasy Album: Invincible by Two Steps From Hell

I've added those to the master list. Any idea who composed for the Robin Hood documentary? It's pronounced "grey". It's an inside joke for geeks. http://pride.spfldcol.edu/web/color.nsf ... enDocument

Listen @ Amazon Various Artists: No Redemption, Alchemy, Campfire, and Thornleaf (thanks for organizing this) Yikes! Guess I was being lazy. And no problem on the organization. It's what I do.

Great guys! You rock! I was also to nominate Invincible by Two Steps From Hell, but Maven beat me to it I friggin love that album, it's amazing! Erdenstern also has at least one good album coming out each hear, I believe Into the White might qualify as well? Not too certain about dates on these, but that's what I have on my list for best Game Soundtrack: Darksiders - Scott Morton God of War III - Gerard Marino et al. Assassin's Creed 2 - Jesper Kyd Dawn of War II – Chaos Rising How to Train your Dragon - John Powell was on my TV/Film soundtrack list by suggestion

I think we've got most of that on the master list with a few exceptions: Assassin's Creed 2 - Jesper Kyd Wikipedia has that coming out in 11/09, depending upon your market. Might be a better candidate for last year's list. Dawn of War II – Chaos Rising I have it and I love it, but it's only, like, five songs. Does that qualify? God of War III - Gerard Marino et al. On the list, but I had Ron Fish as the composer. Not sure I'd swear by that. Do you have Gerard Marino from a reliable source?

Aah, yes I saw that Assassin's Creed was out in 2009. I withdraw I can double check God of War III, I have received the promotion album so it's the real deal. Though there are a bunch of composers for that album, I think I just listed the first one, and perhaps he's not even the "main composer". I'll check!

Lost Kingdom added to the list. How about artists and independent composers? I know OrkPack has done some stuff in 2010. Anyone else? Has Tincolindo done any art or music this year? Does Sean Beeson still count as an indi?

Though there are a bunch of composers for that album... You were right - it was a cast of thousands. I've updated the nomination accordingly.

Lady Tinc has put the harp on the shelf, at least for the time being. She focuses on her art so she'll definitely give us something during 2010 Hmm.. I wonder if we still can count Sean Beeson as indie, though his music is great How can we define the genre a bit better? Perhaps the track must not be part of any soundtrack, single or album? And it must be freely available on the net somehow, i.e. MySpace, own website, etc. What do you think?

How can we define the genre a bit better? Perhaps the track must not be part of any soundtrack, single or album? And it must be freely available on the net somehow, i.e. MySpace, own website, etc. What do you think? Well, I'd think you'd want something more focused on the artist than the track. If Inon Zur posted up a free out-take on his website, it wouldn't, in my humble opinion, turn him into an indie composer. Likewise, if you say it can't be part of any soundtrack, then you would exclude indie studio composers like David John. I think the Sundance festival has the same challenge with this definition. It may be that the "indie" title is kind of like art. You know it when you see it.

Does Sean Beeson still count as an indi? That is a good question I am still very much independent of companies, and am a single person (working from an 8x10 room) roughing it out in Ohio, so in many ways I would like to think I am indie. Regardless if I am ever become more of a successful composer or not, I will still always feel indie, but maybe that is because I am a grass roots kind of guy? Lol Sorry for resurrecting this month old thread. I would have come across it earlier but since we have a kid now I don't get to surf the webz as much anymore Either way, I am happy to even be remembered here!!

No need to apologize for the thread-rez. We're supposed to be thinking about this topic all year. As for "being remembered", you're still on heavy rotation in my soundtrack playlist so that's a given. (Slightly) Off-topic, the way your site is currently arranged, it's difficult to know where the new stuff is, versus the stuff we've known and loved for a while. If you have some 2010 tracks we should be paying attention to, let know what they are. The definition of "Indi" is something we've discussed at some length, and we don't really have a cut and dried answer yet. I suspect you still qualify, if for no other reason than that you still post here! And I sympathize with the challenges a rug rat brings. Don't let them crimp your nerd time *too* much!

I had been doing it the way you suggested for years, but then I was told that a lot of good game music was way down on the list (Maybe I am losing my touch? haha)
