Perhaps we should have a "custom" intro, if you catch my drift.

Daniel, you had some pictures of some nice little brooks behind your house? 500 covers? Yikes, don't think we'll sell that many no Perhaps we'll stick with the boring old jewel cases. The price tag will be quite low, we'll see how much cases, CDs and covers will cost. Just a really wild guess, 10-12 USD? Plus postage and packing. Hopefully lower, we'll see. Lord Elrond, are these what you refer to? http://eotw.home.comcast.net/brook2.jpg http://eotw.home.comcast.net/brook3.jpg http://eotw.home.comcast.net/brook5.jpg http://eotw.home.comcast.net/brook6.jpg Not to put a damper on things, but I wanted to point out a couple of thoughts for consideration. The cost of burning/printing your own CD's typically goes down over 200 CDs. In my past experience, it goes much beyond the upfront costs of buying the CD's and Jewel Cases. If you're planning on doing your own labeling, then you'll need to add in the cost for the CD Labels and then the ink for your printer which will go fast over the course of 50 to 100 CD's. Depending on how many you're planning on ultimately planning, it may be cheaper to go to a local duplication house with your Master CD and electronic artwork and commission them to do the dups and silkscreen the artwork onto the CDs. Then there are the "unseen" costs which essentially is your time. When I was burning my own music CD's It took me about 8 hours just to make 20 or so CDs from scratch (from duplicating the Master CD to folding the Jewel Case liner and inserting it for completion). Granted I didn't have any professional/mass duplication gear available to me. It was just my PC and me. The other thing to keep in mind is that these CD's will always be able to be sold as it's not like the music easily gets dated. So this might be a good reason to go ahead with a larger production run. In the end it will save you/Radio Rivendell more money via the logistics of wholesaling. JMHO...

I agree with Daniel. Go with a duplicating house. They can print directly on the CD which gives you much better quality than the cheap home CD labels you can buy and print yourself. Overall the CD will look much more professional and you won't have to spend all your free time printing, cutting and pasting. You can probably find someone who can do 100 for a resonable price.

Hmm... that sounds like good points to consider. So anyone know of a good place to start looking for such a place here in Sweden?

Perhaps we should have a "custom" intro, if you catch my drift. You mean a specific one for the CD? Yes, that was my intention. Perhaps we should find our own Gollum (Aron) to see if he would want to contribute with his voice? And then ask some composer to add some music to it This could be so cool

I've had ideas on creating themed CDs where we produce a different theme CD each year, say a "tavern CD", a "battle CD", a "travelling CD" etc. Should be do this ALSO perhaps? I'd like to bring forward the unsigned artists from the Fantasy Awards too, and the music will not always fit the theme we have for that particular year. What are your thoughts? It feels as if themed CDs really could be fun thing for roleplayers or writers or just anyone.

I did a quick Google search of "CD Duplication in Sweden" and wasn't able to come up with much. I did however come across this form for submitting bid requests which may be of use to you in this situation: http://www.printindustry.com/cgi-local/new_forms1.cgi?value=cdromform.htm You might want to try that out and see what you get for responses. You may also want to look at some Industry magazines at your local bookstore. Sometimes in the back, you'll find ads for CD duplication houses. You might get lucky there. Hope that helps!

Hmm... that sounds like good points to consider. So anyone know of a good place to start looking for such a place here in Sweden? Do a search for "CD tryck" or "CD tillverkning" on google.se or "cd production" on google.com and you'll find a bunch of alternatives on the sponsored links. You could probably find a few good places in Germany and UK without to much shipping costs, so look around. And send quotation requests to those who doesn't give out their prices directly on the page.

Great great! It would really be much better to do this professionally We can use the donation money to finance the first batch. Great to have such a nice crowd, thanks!

I do like both ideas: An annual CD of RR Award winners + other good unsigned artists. Separately, put out themed CDs (tavern, battle, etc.). I think you could advertise the themed CDs to role-play sites, etc. But until you see what size of market you'll have, I'd say start with the "Best of RR 2006".

So far: Cryo - Rising From the Ashes (cleared, artists has agreed) Paul Houseman - "anything" (not asked artist yet) Helen Trevillion - The Mermaid Part I: The Storm (not asked artist yet) Vintermusikk - Escape from the dragon's lair (not asked artist yet) Tincolindo - Death of the Hero (not asked artist yet) Sean Beeson - "anything" (artist has agreed) Markus Höller - About Kings and Dragons (not asked artist yet) Erdenstern if they agree. We should be able to fit in 10-15 songs on there. And shouldn't we have a cool intro? Of course! Don't forget Matti Paalanen (aka Essence) www.mikseri.net/essence and Paul Spaeth www.spaethmusic.com

I think the themed cds are a great idea. Are you going to allow these to be purchased with PayPal as well as credit cards and such? It would allow more people to purchase the cd (like me heh). This is such a wonderful idea, Lord Elrond. Kudos to you and the artists who give their permission!

Okay then! We'll first go for a mixed CD and then we'll work even harder on putting together the themed CDs That will require a bit more work since we will have to search a bit more.
