I wonder if it will have the big impact as World of Warcraft did, I really doubt it. But it will hopefully be a fun and good game. They should have released it three years earlier to get effect from the movies. It looks pretty darn nice though! But I will probably need to buy a new computer... again.

I applyed but doubt it I'll be accepted anyway. And its made by Turbine, the people who made DDO...said my opinion of that in my gamespot review, I doubt it'll be a smash hit, joust dedicated fans of LOTR.

I am already signed up for the Beta for this game, and have been signed up for a long while now. Even if I am not fortunate enough to sample the game during its Beta phase, I am most certainly going to buy the game. This is the game I have been waiting for since I first discovered RPGs of any kind.

Well if I dont get into the beta I am willing to wait but as I said before I'm mainly worried that my computer won't be able to run it

Unfortunately none of us can know until closer to the release date. The minimum specs required for the game haven't yet been released. Your best bet is to save up a little cash though, just in case you need to upgrade. And there's plenty of time to do that

But what it isn't that hot game and you still buy it? Thats what demos and trials are for, no need to buy the game to find it sucks. I know I'll get flamed for this, but personaly none of the LOTR games so far were up to par with good games in the gender it was made(LOTR strategy games VS SpellForce series for example), shure if you are huge LOTR fan then its good. I really hope that they whould make LOTR online an awesome game, judging by GS forums, its more or less improved DDO, which might not be bad idea if done correctly, since if they make it right then I'm sold. As for system req. I think it will be something like DDO, as DDO looks nice on high end systems but is playable on lower systems, a MMO game cannot afford to only target high end system users. PS, this is my review of DDO, if anyone cares http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/ddonline ... ?id=359451 .

In all seriousness, Turbine have been pretty damn decent when it comes to making MMORPG's. It's the EA games set in Middle-Earth that have been subpar (The Third Age RPG for instance. Not exactly a good game if you are an RPG fan) Although personally I rather enjoy the Battle for Middle Earth series, it's not up to par with other strategy games. Turbine, on the other hand, have had alot of success with MMORPG's and I have no doubts that LOTROoA will be every bit as good as any of their previous projects, if not better. Since it's an MMO there likely won;t be any demos to download for quite some time. Eventually there will be the inevitable 'two week free trials' when they need more subscribers, but unless we are lucky enough to get into the Beta, we most likely won't know how good or bad the game is for quite some time. Of course having said that, I wonder if Lord Elrond couldn't scrounge himself up a Beta ticket from them in exchange for a little publicity for the game As Xion says, chances are the specs will be adaptable for your average PC gaming rig that's available today. 2-3Ghtz processor, 128MB video card, 1-2GB RAM since they want to gain as large an audience as possible. Decent review by the way Xion. Maybe if I am lucky enough to get into Beta (And once the NDA is lifted) I can arrange for you to spend some playtime on while the Beta is running so you can write up a preview for the folks here at RR who might be interested in the game.

I was at their site and checked out the Beta Sign-up. Though "Rivendell" is placed in Europe so they will probably not allow me in. Will have to wait until the release over here I guess. My computer should be sufficient (AMD 3500+, 2GB RAM and X800 GTO (unlocked to 16 pipelines) hopefully. But I think they will need to make the game available to as many people as possible to be able to attract a big enough crowd so they earn money WoW can be run pretty fine on a horribly "bad" PC like my old one (AMD 1.4GHz, ~700MB RAM and a crappy GeForce 4), but it looked 10 times better on my new rig where I could run with extra everything switched to max

LOTROoA has moved officialy into its Beta stage as of Friday the 8th of September. It's not too late to sign up for an application however, as they will be accepting them right up until the official release day. If I get accepted into Beta, and the NDA is lifted, I will be posting up a preview or two here for any who are interested, maybe even with screenshots.

If I get accepted into Beta I haven't been accepted as yet, though I keep my fingers crossed. Since I'm based in California right now, I applied for the US Beta.
