I'm here all the time, I just don't speak when I have nothing to say.

Things that i like about this design:

1) The wood. Yes, it could be a bit dated, but sometimes i like the blast from the past.

2) The light on dark. This is one thing i really wish more of the internet had going for it.

3) Everything blends together quite well. on the upgrade to RR3.0+ if you could have a themes, i am requesting that you keep one that is very similar to current one

4) seasonal decor

Things that can become better:

1) Chat is really hard to find

2) i clicked polls about 50 times to see if i answered them all (i did not) so i see that you have a list going to list things like this, I suggest that you add this

3) Expanded BB-code. I keep trying to use things like s" title="and and [spoilerspoilers[/spoiler" rel="nofollow" class="sprite-small sprite-small-external">s Also, with any markup, a preview button would be nice

1) Yes, the wood is cool. And I haven't actually found any good texture except this one, which I put together myself from bits and pieces I think. A good reference point from the past

2) I will make two themes when I have a good base going. A light and a dark one to satisfy all needs

3) I have support for many themes, where each member actually can have a theme each. But we'll stick to the two from above.

4) YES! I LOVE more seasonal changes and decor. I have had ideas on this for ever. We'll have winter, spring, summer and autumn. Plus halloween, valentines, Tolkien's birthday etc etc. Nothing much, but something extra

Better 1) Yes, the chat actually is a pain to find. I will make this more logical och easy to find. Great suggestion!

Better 2) Great suggestion! Our polls are weird. I want to expand this section more too, making it easy to find new and unanswered polls is a great suggestion!

As for the topic:

1. Some BBcode is too inventive, causing problems. For example you can't use square brackets, because strings inside will always be interpreted as a link. I think the easiest solution is to make a whole new BBcode parsing system that will fire instead of the old one if the date is > NEW_RR_RELEASE_DATE.

2. I'm working on a project, a special chat, that could possibly be merged with RR some day, and could even bring profits (money) to the site. However, it is vital that the authentication (login) process is 100% secure in order for that to work. I would recommend to use a framework dealing with authentication on new Radio Rivendell, because it's simply too hard to maintain this part of site's security by one person with other responsibilities - there's also no shame in admitting that.

So, while I don't want to make any promises or announcements just yet, the safe authentication is essential if you want the site to grow to the point where some individuals might be interested in stealing accounts.

I'm not into PHP, I guess there are two options:

One is to use a framework for whole site, like Cake PHP.

Second is to use a framework for authentication only, some opensource, active framework with many contributors can't be bad or insecure.

Also, I don't know if your current scripts are insecure, but because you had some problems with cookie time I guessed it's self-made and doing such stuff alone is asking for problems.

Hehe, I know. My scripts are not perfect, but it's more fun to do it yourself, though riskier

All Greek to me (I tend more towards blowing up computers, rather than understanding their nuances) therefore, I am more than happy to leave the surgical stuff to the experts. Cool! I'll try to find some time to code the snowflakes on HTML 5 for improved performance and less glitches.

Excellent! I never had any glitches due to the weather (haha), so I didn't realize there might have been a problem. Ether, if you could utilize that same coding with minimal modifications for other things, then perhaps falling leaves for Autumn, birds or something for Spring, and then for Summer...ummmm - hey how about a little flying fairy or two fluttering about? Just a few ideas...I just thought it was so clever to have the animations linked to the seasons and/or holidays. It certainly caught the eye of friends and family who walked by while I had the screen maximized...

Leaves is a nice idea, I'll definitely try to add them. As for other ideas, I plan to make sun rays for Summer (actually I implemented Sun Rays, but they weren't quite as nice as I'd like them to be). I don't think having an effect all the time is a good idea though, I think it's funnier if the logo is static and only sometimes there's a nice touch to it like the snow or rain or something. Also, I have some problems with the logo right now.

Nothing ever goes smoothly... in other news, perhaps you can help with something else? I posted some pics in the Craftsmen's guild and someone else wanted to see the pics. he went to the guild, but he said that all he saw was my name, and nothing else. Are the guilds set up where you have to be a member in order to see anything?
