Hey everyone. I have to read a LOT of books for this school thing. Lately i havent been able to find many good books and i was hoping some one could help me out a little.
Well it is kind of hard to explain what kind of books I like, but i think pretty much anything based on fantasy I would like. Although I do like series books like The Squire's Tales.

What kind of answer do you expect on a webiste like this.
The New Jedi Academy series by Kevin J. Anderson is a close second. I also like Dune and The Chronicals Of Narnia. Hmm... I may have to rethink my first answer.

Favorite books? To many to list here, but one strange one called "Green Darkness". About reincarnation but really great story line. Jumping from the past into the future then into the past, needless to say the book keeps you moving and you can not put it down. Lots of romance with tons of historical background, it is a murder mystery as to who killed the wench who was in love with the monk, she was walled up and he was hung and their modern counterparts relive it all over again in the past and in the future because they are married. So she wants to know why he doesn't want her and he is trying to figure out why he wants to be a priest! Lots of History with this book! Of course Tolkien's "The Hobbit" and LotR", and Mary Stewart's Merlin series. All 4 books! "The Sunne in Splendor" about the positive side of Richard the Third with loads of historical proof. The age old argument of Richard killed his nephews or he did not. This book gives credit to the side of he didn't do it. Very good book with lots of references to prove he didn't do it. You be the judge. Tolkien's "The Silmarillion" and "Unfinished Tales" is added and soon the HoME all the books!

I recently discovered the absolutely BRILLIANT historical novel "London" by Edward Rutherford. Since I'm English and have always been obsessed with London (despite having lived in New Zealand for most of my life), it's become probably my favourite book ever.
Basically it traces the history and development of London and to some extent the rest of England from Celtic times to almost the present day. It covers all the major conquests and social changes, and weaves in fictional characters into a vast story and family tree, but always sticks as closely to known history as possible.
Highly recommended!

Hum... Some famous books like :
The Lord of the Rings of course
The Robots, by Asimov
The Legend of the Graal, but that is not really a book
The Iliad and the Odyssey, not a real book too
First and Only, by Ban Abnett, at the Black Library
And french books too :
Les Chroniques de Féals, par Matthieu Gaborit
Les Chroniques des Crépusculaires, par M.Gaborit
and some "Bandes Dessinées", like Lanfeust, les Forêts d'Opale, Alban or Slhoka.
I'm sure I forgot some...

I'm new, and the thread may be dead, but here's my two cents:
In college I fell in love with 19th century Victorian sci-fi/fantasy. Favorites include
-The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
-Frankenstein
-The Time Machine
-Poe, anything Poe.
This site rocks

Nah, not dead at all.
My top ten list:
10.Men of Men - Wilbur Smith. A great adventure story. Not fantasy, but he writes really well.
9. Shogun - James Clavell - again, not fantasy, but a really interesting read.
8. Dracula - Bram Stoker. Great book, really well written - the first and defining Dracula text.
7. The Copper Crown, The Throne of Scone, The Silver Branch. I've pu these three together because they're a trilogy. Can't remember who wrote them, sorry! But Wow - definately worth a read!!
6. Mists of Avalon series - Marion Zimmer Bradley - the tale of Arthur through the eyes of the women around him. Very moving, very well written.
5. Kingdom of Shadows - Barbara Erskine. This is quite high on my list, because although the writing drags slightly in places, the rest of the book is above amazing. Great ghostly story.
4. Deverry series - Katherine Kerr. Actually, anything by Kerr. She has an amazing talent for writing.
3. Phantom - Susan Kay. OK, so it's not fantasy again, but if you like the Phantom of the Opera, this is one for you.
2. Philipa Gregory. Anything by Philipa Gregory. This is more historical fiction, but she writes with such amazing detail, and with such obvious research.
1. Tolkien. Obviously. Lord of the Rings, the Hobbit, the Silmarillion, Unfinshed Tales, Leaf by Niggle.....
