Did you read the "Sorcerer (Hexer)" series by Hohlbein. Do you mean "The Scorcerer of Salem" or "The Magician"?? I read both of these book series. They are also really amazing stories, as the most of the books of Wolfgang Hohlbein. Nevertheless, nearly the best ones are the parts of the "Chronicle of undying". B.t.w.: Have you already read the last two parts of the "Scorcerer"? I haven't read them till now (think they are "The son of the sorcerer" and "The house of evil dreams".

The Kalevala. Finland's national epic which inspired also Tolkien pretty much the most. There's a small introductory in LOTR dvd's making of -documentaries in the special extended versions. The language researcher's attempt on talking Finnish there is just pretty much hilarious to a native finn though

I know it's a cliché, but LOTR, The Hobbit are my all-time favorites. and Kristin Lavransdattar by Sigrid Undsett. Also recently discovered George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice & Fire series & can't stop thinking about it.
