Favourite book of all time: The Fellowship of the Ring I love the Middle Earth and everything connected to it, but this book is very special to me. It's the most colourful novel I've ever read. A masterpiece

1. The dragonriders of Pern, the whole series by Anne McCaffrey. After that comes Feist, with all of his books. Followed by Robin Hobb with all of her books.

Do audiobooks count? Because like Ioanna (Loanna with first letter small? I never know xD) stated, it's hard to choose. Especially because I don't read one book twice - although I'm thinking to reread The Witcher saga. So my favorite book is "Narrenturm" by same writer as "Witcher". It is because I've read it first, and then I found a great audiobook, not just an audiobook written by one lector, it is a radio play by good actors with some simple audio effects like sounds of horses fire etc. Personally I hate polish movies and polish actors, because not many can act ( IMHO ). But that is for visual part, and their voices are great. That's why I love to play polish versions of games ( Though Poland is small country and when You see Alistair in Dragon Age: Origins, he speaks with same voice as Dandelion from The Witcher ) and most Poles will agree that 90% dubbed polish versions of animated movies are MUCH better then original! So connect the strong, emotional voice of polish actors with also very emotional style of Andrzej Sapkowski, "Narrenturm" author, and You get a masterpiece. Another thing is, that "Narrenturm" has both gripping story and rich language. When I was reading it, I wanted to finish each chapter as soon as possible to know what happens next. When listening, I had to wait, sometimes characters didn't haste at all, to say what they were going to say. That made me listen carefully and only then discover great Sapkowski's writing style. Too bad it's all in polish and You can't check if I'm saying truth

I have heard of it, but yeah, sadly I cannot read it. Poland doesn't export many books into English, wish they would.

The Witcher is translated for sure. I googled Narrenturm and looks like it isn't translated :'(

I can't choose just one. LotR and it's friends Valdemar books by Mercedes Lackey Elemental Masters books by Mercedes Lackey Pern books by Anne McCaffrey Deryni books by Katherine Kurtz Discworld books by Terry Pratchett There are other books/series/authors I'd list, but since this is a fantasy-themed site, I'll stop there.

The Winds of the Forelands Serie by David B Coe. The last one from the serie called Weavers of War I just couldn't stop reading. It made me fail a test because I wasn't able to put it away and just read trough the whole night. Also the Sword of Truth serie by Terry Goodkind is very good. It has some lesser books but some are truely brilliant like the Temple of the Winds. I'm now reading the newst book from him (The Omen Machine) and its very good! Also the Shannara serie by Terry Brooks is very good. Since I took my nickname from that serie (the original triology to be precise) I think it says enough about how I think the books are .

I went to GenCon last September, and Coe was one of three or four authors at a booth of books. I bought the first in the Weavers series (and he signed it for me!) -- it was, indeed, hard to put down, but I found it kind of depressing. I'll root out and read the rest of that set before I give a final judgement on it, though. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on it, Allanon. And I thought you might have taken your name from that book.

I think I have two preferred sagas, Dune and Dragonlance. And as representation of this books, maybe "Childrens of Dune" and "La Conquista del Monte Noimporta" (I don't know its name in English). It is difficult to select only one book, but if I must do it a think it's "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" which coincidentally is not part of any of the previous sagas that I have said.

My favorite book of all time if I had to select ONE book would be The Robe by Lloyd C. Douglas. Other then that I have over 300 books floating around my room in stacks, so picking favorites would take an awful long time. Instead of a favorite I can say my current fantasy series I just finished was the Cartomancy saga by Michael A. Stackpole. Awesome series, fascinating world, and with the most innovative take on magic I've read in a long time.

Yeah! I forgot to mention it, but indeed The Hitchhiker's Guide is also very high on my list. I'm currently reading the 5th book, in the triology of five And although the humor never changes, it never bores me either.

I'm jealous . altough I have the books almost from the time they where published. After the Lontobyn Chronicles I was addicted to his work.

Personally I find them very good, especially because of the complexity. the first book is relativly easy compared with the others, and its getting more complex with every book. Also I like his whole take on magic in that serie. The the whole culure he describes really grabs me and I can imagine myself living in such a worlds. thats what really facinates me.

In the world of Cartomancy everybody is born with certain talents, just like we are here on boring old earth. Although they tend to be a bit more specific, like someone is unusually talented with herbs, someone at swordfighting, someone at blacksmithing ect. The fun part is that if you are talented enough you start giving off jaedun, which means you are using magic to enhance your skills. If you develop your skill into an insane ability you become jaecaiserr, which means you are imbued with magic. Your life is extended by magic into hundreds of years and your ability with your skill can only be matched by another jaecaiserr.

The way he using this formal setting of magic, not so much fireballs and massive spells, but merely magic as an enhancement to everyday skills is really cool. And it becomes seriously fun when the main plot of the book kicks in he starts using jaedun to boost a skill that you never would normally consider as being magical.

So anyhow, I really enjoyed that series, I've always liked Michael A. Stackpole, he's my second favorite Star Wars writer and created my favorite character Corran Horn. ^^
